Northpoint Church Tullamarine History

Northpoint was established in January 2002, when Pastor Loren was called by the Victorian conference to move from Innisfail (Queensland) to Melbourne to be personal ministries Director of the conference and at the same time plant a church. It was decided this church would be a pioneer church plant and as there was a lack of churches in the North Western suburbs. Pr Loren and his family set up their home in Gladstone Park.

The first year was spent in making new friends in the community, letterboxing and creating a platform from which to launch the church. In this time a Life Group was raised up with some people from a neighbouring church in Greenvale; this Life Group grew and became the basis of other Life Groups.

A second Life Group was also started in Fawkner with Greg Evans leading. With both groups growing it was decided to start a Saturday afternoon service. In February 2003, an evangelistic program featuring Pr Geoff Youlden was held in Melrose Reception Centre on Carrick Drive and at Elite Reception on Hume Highway, Craigieburn. From this seminar a number of baptisms resulted. Two simultaneous Prophesy Seminars followed; one run by Pr Loren Pratt at the Gladstone Park Community Centre and the other run by Pr Greg Evans in Elite Reception Centre on Hume Hwy.

On April 26th, 2003 at 3.30pm Northpoint officially started in a rented room on the complex owned by Cilloms Airport Lodge on Melrose Drive. On that first day, approximately 25 people met, with a number of helpers from Greenvale Church. On our first year party we had 84 attendees. Many of our team leaders in our church today were won for Christ while we worshiped in that building.

We quickly filled the room with people and activities. It was so full that the older kids had to meet in the stairway for their program. Needing more space, we moved into a bigger building in June 2006: The Gladstone Park Senior Citizen's Centre, which looked more like a worship venue and where we saw the highest number of people ever attending our worship service to this day: over 160 people.

After many attempts to obtain grants and loans and much negotiation, the new venue for Northpoint was finally purchased in September 2009. However, it wasn't until October 2010 that we were able to move in. Northpoint is now focusing intensely on relationship evangelism. It is also in the process of shaping and fitting the building for community outreach.

Northpoint is working with the Tullamarine Community House and the Men's Shed to fit out an area of the building to suit training programs. Northpoint has just made major moves toward becoming a multi-site church by providing a seminar in the Rockbank area and a worship service.

OUR NAME AND WHY WE ARE CALLED NORTHPOINT

Northpoint is a special name and carries a lot of meaning. In the Bible our True North is Jesus. Jesus means everything to Northpoint and as a Church we passionately follow him. Our sights at Northpoint are fixed on Jesus, the true North and giving glory to him. Like a compass we get our bearing from Him. He is the centre of all we do at Northpoint.

The world we live in today offers all kinds of bearings and directions that lead us away from Jesus. We want to take people from a confused setting and give them true North: Jesus. When we get our bearings on Him all earthly directions become clear.

Our Logo includes a red triangle that signifies our pursuing of a passionate relationship with Jesus. It also includes three other points which can help us remember our discipleship track. The discipleship track undergirds everything we do at Northpoint and shows our attendees very clearly and simply how they can become members of this church.
